…This below-street-level restaurant of 20-odd tables delivers the goods. The surroundings are Old Italian Restaurant 101: Mirrors and old framed prints and posters line the brick- and wood-covered walls, and there's a maître d' in formal attire greeting arrivals. The pan-Italian menu of classics has no truck with anything nouveau or edgy…Portions here are large— Give careful consideration to the specialties from Bologna. — John D. Rambow, New York Magazine

Eleanor Dubinsky has found the tender edge where jazz, Lusophone, and pop sensibilities meet emotionally forthright songwriting. She suggests we all work to "Turn It Around," the first single from her upcoming album Soft Spot of My Heart. Eleanor's work embraces sounds from the USA, Cape Verde, and Brazil, thanks to her multifaceted band. To underline her uplifting message, she is expanding her performance to welcome the powerful joy of Brooklyn based contemporary gospel ensemble Greg Stamper Stamper & Soul21, who also make a noteworthy appearance on her new record.

Please join us for this fantastic show so we can celebrate this milestone together!

*Co-written with pianist and composer Frank Ponzio, Turn It Around is an uplifting tribute to the spring that comes after a long winter, literally and spiritually.

WIth Denilia Cotton and Band

9pm-10pm on friday at Rockwood music hall room 3 (downstairs).

or    http://www.rockwoodmusichall.com

Danielia Cotton has really been making a name for herself. She’s received praise from big publications such as NPR, Los Angeles Times, Boston Herald, and New York Times. On top of that, she’s opened up for huge legendary acts, such as Bon Jovi, B. B. King, The Allman Brothers, Derek Trucks, Robert Cray, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Coming from a family of talented musicians, naturally, Danielia chose this path as well. She has just released a new album, titled A Prayer, and I got to listen to a track off of it called “Wasted”.

Man, this track is powerful. A cool blend of instruments start out the song, creating swells and a catchy beat. When Danielia starts singing, you can instantly tell that she’s putting her heart and soul behind her lyrics, as she sings, “why were you wasted?” Her voice is a force of nature that propels the piece. You can hear her pain and heartache and she’s broken when she sings, “why can’t you see that you’re hurting us both?” This tune is filled with raw emotion that makes you really connect with the song. This track is just beautiful.

Quando Swing Soiree

Rosemary Loar, vocalist Frank Ponzio piano  Tom Hubbard, bass and Vito Lesczak, drums.

for more info contact frank at frankponzio3@gmail.com

With THE QUANDO SWING, you can expect the unexpected as Rosemary Loar offers jazz as a smorgasbord and standards with a modern take. The show is a feast of incredible tastes and textures. In this evening of wonderful music, there is laughter, poignancy and reflection. As Rosemary progresses through her program, you find yourself reminded of the light effervescence of Ella Fitzgerald, the smoldering intensity of Billie Holiday, and the haunting tones of Peggy Lee. Rosemary can flit into a light and bouncy “word-scat” a la Annie Ross, lay back soulful and sultry (“I Ain’t Got Nothin’ But the Blues”), or hypnotize with a pretty love ballad (“Prelude To A Kiss”). And Rosemary Loar brings one more flavor to every show that is uniquely her own--a quirky and spontaneous sense of humor.

STING*chronicity at Joe's Pub

WIth Rosemary Loar, vocalist   Frank Ponzio, Piano   Tom Hubbard, bass

Rosemary Loar’s STING*chronicity offers an unexpected combination of monologues with a stunning variety of arrangements featuring the music of he brilliant contemporary songwrite, STING.

The show is “set” in Madison Square Garden on the occasion of the final reunion concert of the iconic band, The Police, which was headed by Sting. In STING*chronicity, Loar surveys the diverse and passionate audience and their very varied interpretations of Sting’s music, then filters the words of his songs through their unique lives and experiences. The show includes many of Sting's most popular hits, as well as some lesser known songs, and a tune from Sting’s recent Broadway show, The Last Ship.

" rich theatrical experience. Loar doesn’t simply rearrange numbers; she re-contextualizes them, morphing into a series of characters . . . his unique show is audacious, well calibrated, and juicy. You'll never listen to Sting the same way again.”  --BroadwayWorld.co

STEPHEN HANKS—DON McLEAN: STORYTELLER

with Musical Director/Guitarist Sean Harkness,  Frank Ponzio, Piano and Bass Guitar Skip

In the summer of 2013 and early 2014, Stephen Hanks fulfilled his long-held fantasy to perform a cabaret show based on the songbook of 1970s pop singer/songwriter Don McLean, who wrote the classic song, “American Pie.” Hanks’ show BEYOND AMERICAN PIE: THE DON McLEAN SONGBOOK was staged four times at the Metropolitan Room and Hanks got the reaction from critics and audiences he was hoping for.

“BEYOND AMERICAN PIE is a well-structured show featuring songs by McLean, which deserve to be noticed. Hanks displayed impressive ease and presence on stage, delivered well-thought out (and funny) patter, and had passion for the writer and his songs.” –Sherry Eaker, Bistro Awards
